abstract painting of parrots and other things.

Murder Parrots. Acrylic on Canvas. 60x48. 2024

This tropical paradise is no longer a paradise. This piece was inspired by a recent trip to Colombia and a resort with 2 large parrots in the lobby. It is meant to raise concern on international tourism, global infrastructure and climate impact. The figures are outlines as if to suggest they are ghosts or spirits of a past no longer attainable....and the repetition of the parrots suggests that experiences are becoming more similar no matter where you travel. Use of space is meant invite viewers to consider the space around them when traveling abroad, take it in and respect other cultures and boundaries. As humans, we have a responsibility to help maintain and respect the locations we visit....otherwise, the wildlife might just start rising up against us. There is also a banana in there. Things of NOTE: the parrots were painted first, then the black after many layers of iteration. The parrots are based on real life parrots that live and work in Hawaii on the big island. The house plants are based on actual house plants in the artist’s home. One is called Malcom Kiezer (right). The other one is named Christine (left) after the car in that movie.
